Univar BV – a subsidiary of speciality ingredients and chemicals company Univar Solutions – has made an exclusive agreement with natural ingredient solution provider Kalsec, to enable the distribution of Kalsec’s products in the UK and Ireland.

Kalsec’s natural taste and sensory, colours and food protection ingredient solutions will be available for use in savoury applications in both countries through the deal.

The company’s liquid ingredients are developed using natural herbs, spices, vegetables, and hops, and can be used to add a range of flavours and colour stability to food and drink, as well as to ensure products are clean label and safe for consumption.

Some of Kalsec’s food and drink applications include baked goods and cereals, Asian products, noodles, plant-based proteins, snacks, seasoning blends, soups, sauces and dressings, beer and other beverages.

Kevin Hack, Global Vice President of Food Ingredients for Univar Solutions commented on the new agreement: “By bringing Kalsec’s complete line of natural extracts, colours, and food protection ingredient solutions to our significant customer base in the United Kingdom and Ireland, we’re helping shape the future of food through ingredient innovation and recipe development.

The deal will allow Univar to boost its global ingredients portfolio. The company already works with Kalsec in other European countries, including Poland and the Nordic countries, as well as some Latin American nations such as Mexico.

James Smith, Kalsec’s Vice President and Managing Director for Europe, commented: “In addition to optimising our route-to-market and serving new customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland, it also supports our purpose of unlocking the potential of people, nature, and science to nourish the world.”

Hack added: “Adding these innovative and high-quality ingredients to our portfolio in this region, along with our best-in-class service, technical expertise, and reliable and resilient supply chain, we can further help our customers bring their product vision to life.”
