Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has followed in Lewis Hamilton’s footsteps by investing in vegan fast-food restaurant chain Neat Burger.

DiCaprio took part in Neat Burger’s Series B fundraise, which focussed on US investors.

The restaurant chain announced the news on Twitter. “We’re excited to announce that @LeonardoDiCaprio is joining Neat as an investor and ambassador; supporting our mission to inspire people to make better choices. Welcome to the team, we’re thrilled to have you on our journey as we continue to shake up the global foodspace!

Whilst the Wolf of Wall Street star said on the social media platform: “@NeatBurger’s pioneering approach to alternative proteins is a great example of the type of solutions we need to disrupt our food system and make a real difference in reducing global emissions and I’m excited to support as an investor.”

Tommaso Chiabra, Co-Founder and Chairman of NEAT FOOD CO, parent company of Neat Burger, said: “NEAT is on a mission to create a sustainably delicious future. We are using our brand to build community and lead the change for a more sustainable future of food. Our Series B raise will accelerate our global expansion and entry into the CPG market, so everyone can enjoy alternatives that not only taste delicious but have a positive impact on the planet.

Launched in 2019 by five friends wanting to offer tasty food to the public without harming animals or the environment, Neat Burger currently has eight restaurants in London and is planning to open more. The start-up opened a pop-up in New York City last week ahead of launching its flagship store in Manhattan in the autumn 2022, and is hoping to open in the rest of Europe.

Vegan Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton invested early in the company, soon after it launched in 2019.

Leonardo DiCaprio is known for his environmental activism. The Oscar winner is an investor in cellular agriculture and aquaculture start-ups Mosa Meat and WildType, plant-based food company Beyond Meat, British vegan snack brand HIPPEAS and plant-based milk company Califia Farms. DiCaprio also sits on the sustainability board of plant-based dairy ingredient company Perfect Day.
