RGU offers a range of food science and nutrition related courses, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, which have been developed in collaboration with external stakeholders to ensure we are staying up to date with the needs of the field and producing graduates that have the necessary skills to contribute to the challenges of today’s society.

BSc (Hons) Food, Nutrition & Human Health explores the scientific role of nutrients and food, not only on our health but across the food chain. Our aim is to produce graduates with a high level of knowledge that also covers the breadth of the topic, looking at how we produce food, the impact of policies on food production, what makes up the food we eat, how our own body’s respond to our food, and all the way through to the associations between nutrients and health. All our students undertake a work-based placement in their final year and we work with each student to arrange a placement that meets their own areas of interest, be it food product development, public health nutrition, sports nutrition, research, or wherever their interests in food and nutrition might take them.

Our online MSc Public Health Nutrition course provides teaching and learning around the role of food and nutrition in health and disease, and how this knowledge can be applied to improve public health. Food and nutrition policies for improving health and preventing chronic disease are required worldwide. Undernutrition and obesity are global public health problems, and food security and sustainable diets are of increasing importance as we adapt to feed a growing population whilst mitigating the effects of climate change on food production. We will support you to develop the professional skills required for a successful career in the field – working to improve the diet and nutritional status of individuals, communities and populations with the aim of improving health and wellbeing, and reducing the burden of disease.

MSc Analytical Science – Food Analysis, Authenticity & Safety is aimed at scientists and engineers who wish to develop their skills in his particular area. The course makes use of modern analytical equipment to provide a real insight into the latest developments and challenges facing the industry with the aim of enhancing career prospects and producing graduates who have the confidence and competence to make a real difference in this area.
