Biography

Eline holds a PhD in Neuroendocrinology from the Faculty of Medicine at Utrecht University and has extensive experience, spanning over 25 years, in research in both academic and commercial environments. After working as a Postdoc and Assistant Professor at the Human & Animal Physiology Group at the Wageningen University since 1994, she joined Numico as Research Manager in 2000. In 2008, she was appointed as Program Director of New Health Benefits in Danone Nutricia Research. Between 2010 and 2015 she was the Research Director for the Danone Research hub in Singapore, with a specific focus on maternal & child health, after moving back to global R&D in the Netherlands, working as Research Director Metabolism & Growth.

She was appointed as Professor in Nutritional Programming (Endowed Chair) at the University of Groningen in 2016. Her preclinical, epidemiological and clinical research aims to better understand the impact of nutrition & maternal health on infant and child development with specific attention to the impact of pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes. Eline has published over 150 peer-reviewed research papers and is the inventor of more than 25 patent applications.

Since April 2021, Eline has been the Head of the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences at Nestlé Research in Lausanne responsible for teams at the global R&D sites in Vers-chez-les-Blanc (VCLB) and the EPFL campus in Lausanne, and two research hubs based in Beijing and Singapore. The research focus of the Institute is on advancing nutritional research and developing science-based nutritional solutions for brain development and cognitive function, gut health and microbiome, physical performance and healthy growth as well as metabolic health across life stages.
