Dr Pol Grootswagers is Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Ageing at Wageningen University & Research. His research focuses on optimising dietary strategies to support muscle health, functional resilience, and biological ageing in older adults. He leads research lines on protein quality, plant-based diets, and ageing biomarkers, combining clinical trials, nutritional epidemiology, and data-driven modelling approaches. He developed the Meal Protein Quality Score and translated it into the Alpha Tool, an award-winning web-based application that enables optimisation of protein quality in plant-rich meals. His work bridges fundamental nutritional science with practical implementation and digital innovation. Dr Grootswagers is scientific advisor to the ILSI Europe Task Force on Healthy Ageing and board member of the Dutch Society for Research on Ageing. He regularly delivers keynote lectures internationally and contributes to media discussions on nutrition, ageing, and healthy longevity.
