Professor Derek Stewart is Director of the Advanced Plant Growth Centre, a £33M Tay Cities Deal regional development project hosted at the James Hutton Institute and co-director of the BBSRC/Innovate UK/Industry supported (£38M) National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre. For over 30 years Derek has worked at the industry-academia interface and has led multiple (inter)national multi-partner projects that, to date, total >£330M. His core research centres on the discovery-innovation-exploitation pipeline for crops. As part of this he currently oversees several projects focussed on total controlled environment agriculture, alternative protein feedstocks and crops as sustainable feedstock for multiple sectors. Professor Stewart has several advisory and board positions in crop and food companies, and innovation centres. Allied to this Prof Stewart sits on the review panels of many international funders review boards. He is widely published with >200 refereed papers and an H index of 70.
