Hummingbird Technologies is an imagery analytics start-up which uses artificial intelligence and data science to enable regenerative farming. Here, Matthew Guinness, Head of Sustainability, discusses investment, growth and fundraising plans in his pitch to a team of investors at the Food Tech Matters April 2021 event.

The company was founded in 2016 and has witnessed a substantial evolution in its analytics particularly around the detection of sustainable farming practices and outcomes.  With a team made up predominantly of data scientists, Hummingbird Technologies, utilises raw imagery to provide valuable-decision making tools for agri-food businesses. Their mission is to improve the sustainability of global food production and here, Matthew discusses how scaling up agricultural carbon credits and as a potential revenue source for farm and landowners is a means to do this.

“If the world can develop a way of monetising regenerative agriculture, soil restoration and sequestering carbon within soils, it can provide a potential additional income stream for farmers whilst also increasing the sustainability of food production”, says Matthew Guinness.

The next Food Tech Matters event is from 29 – 30 November 2021. To register to pitch at the event, please email tilly.staubyn@foodmatters.co.uk or register interest online here.
