Consumers in Israel are one step closer to enjoying animal-free real dairy products, following a deal between Remilk and Central Bottling Company (CBC Group).

As per the partnership, the two parties will work together to develop and launch a new line of dairy drinks, cheeses and yoghurts using Remilk’s animal-free milk protein.

Pending regulatory approval, products are expected to reach the Israeli mass market within the next 12 months, according to Remilk.

CBC Group is one of the country’s largest food companies and producers of dairy. Partnering with such a business is a significant step for Remilk, according to CEO and Co-Founder Aviv Wolff.

He said: “We’re thrilled to partner with one of the most trusted and innovative dairy producers in Israel, with a legacy of more than 70 years making delicious dairy products for generations of consumers.

“This is a significant affirmation of the quality, safety, and versatility of Remilk’s protein. CBC Group is a first mover, playing a powerful role in helping drive a dairy industry evolution for the better of people and the planet. We’re working with regulators and innovators around the world to make non-animal dairy products available to consumers everywhere.”

By utilising Remilk’s dairy-identical, yet non-animal milk proteins, the products manufactured by CBC Group will be entirely free of lactose, hormones and cholesterol.

Additionally, the company’s yeast-based fermentation process requires a fraction of the resources compared with traditional dairy production using cows, making it better for the environment.

Yoram Sagy, president of CBC Group said: “Our partnership with Remilk is in complete alignment with CBC Group’s values of introducing cutting edge innovations on the one hand and finding innovative solutions for the existing food and beverage market on the other, as part of The Core, our new center promoting innovative R&D.”

This year has already been a busy one for Remilk, which kicked off 2022 with a Series B funding round that raised $120M (£100.3M).

Alongside this latest deal with CBC Group, the Israeli company also announced its plan to build the “world’s largest” precision fermentation facility in Denmark as part of its expansion.

Additionally, the business also recently obtained self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognised As Safe) status in the US – which paves the way for the eventual sale of Remilk products there too.
