Given the current obesity statistics, more than half of all adults (63%) are being classed as overweight or obese, accumulating to over 35 million people in the UK alone.

Vidya have successfully found a solution to this problem with their novel metabolic supporting all-natural ingredient called AfperFIT which stimulates brown adipose tissue (BAT) activity.

AfperFIT would be a strong contributor to support brands looking to create products which improve consumers metabolism.

Vidya Herbs are one of the Get on Stage Partners at Food Matters Live in November and in preparation for the event, we sat in discussion with Sneha Pal,  Business Development Manager at Vidya Herbs, who explained some of the current innovations their company have been working on. This novel extract from grains-of-paradise named AfperFIT is a prime example of one of Vidya’s new developments which has huge benefits.

So what has Vidya discovered are the benefits of AfperFIT ?

Vidya discovered, through a randomised, double blind, placebo controlled, parallel group, single centre study which was conducted on 60 overweight adults, that the AfperFIT group saw a significant increase in energy expenditure +230 kcal/day more compared to the placebo group. These results can be understood given how brown adipose tissue produces body heat through thermogenesis, increasing energy expenditure, or calorie burning for those consuming AfperFIT.  The administration of AfperFIT™ was also well tolerated and no adverse events (AE) were  noticed by the use of the product by the trial investigator.

This novel extract is made from the dried A. melegueta seeds which undergo a supercritical CO2 extraction process to produce an oleoresin which is then spray-dried with a non-GMO maltodextrin. Vidya’s AfperFIT powder supports a healthy metabolism, increasing metabolically active adipose tissue by upregulating several fatty acid metabolism markers such as UCP-1, PGC-1a and PPARy.

AfperFIT stands out as a unique ingredient in the health benefit category and has both human clinical trial substantiation and clean-label formulation properties.

AfperFIT is plant-based, non-GMO and is free of the eight major food allergens. It contains no residual solvents and imparts a thermogenic effect without caffeine allowing it to be taken any time of the day.

As far as applications we see this as both an ingredient for those looking to support a healthy lifestyle but also as a sports nutrition solution for the more serious fitness enthusiast.  It is ideal for use in non-stimulant formulas and can also be used in more traditional sports nutrition ingredients with stimulating properties such as caffeine.  We believe in addition to capsules an exciting application would be in either gummies or in powders to be mixed with complementary ingredients and flavours.
