Finnebrogue Artisan, the producer of the plant-based Naked and meat-based Naked brands, has announced the launch of its latest product, Naked Evolution Burger.

The company claims its latest burger has the texture, taste and succulence of real meat and it will rival best selling US vegan meat companies.

In blind taste tests carried out at food science and technology centre, Campden BRI, Finnebrogue Artisan’s Evolution Burger matched popular Beyond Meat’s Beyond Burger.

Evolution Burger however will have a lower price tag than its American rival. A Beyond Meat pack of two burgers currently retails at £5, whilst the Naked Evolution Burger 226g pack of two will retail at £3.

The Naked Evolution Burger is pea protein-based, is soy and gluten free, has 40% less saturated fat than a traditional beef burger, and is fortified with iron, zinc and vitamin B12.

Sarah Savage, Head of New Product Development at Finnebrogue Artisan, commented:
The Naked Evolution Burger is a next level burger, and the result of many months of research, trials and flavour tasting. Our vision was to create a succulent ‘beefy’ burger that would taste amazing, but without the meat.

What we have created is an evolved plant-based burger, suitable for vegetarians and vegans, that is high in protein, contains less saturated fat than a real beef burger, and is priced competitively without compromising on quality, flavour or sustainability.

“It’s packaged in a 100% recycled and recyclable tray, carries a grade A enviro-score from Foundation Earth, and the burgers are both soya and gluten free.

Foundation Earth, a non-profit organisation that awards environmental scores to food products, was founded by the late Finnebrogue Artisan chairman, Denis Lynn.

The Northern Ireland food producer has recently committed to adding environmental scores to all its front of packs for Naked and The Good Little Company, to give consumers the choice to buy more sustainably.

Naked Evolution Burgers will be initially launched in Waitrose, Ocado and Dunnes Stores this week.
