Investment management company Beyond Investing has launched the US Vegan Climate Index Certificate to screen out companies involved in animal exploitation and environmental damage

Personalised nutrition market background

Beyond Investing, the investment management company that invests in cruelty-free and environmentally friendly portfolios, has launched the US Vegan Climate Index Certificate.

The US Vegan Climate ETF (Ticker: VEGN) tracks the Beyond Investing US Vegan Climate Index (VEGAN). VEGAN has been set up to screen large cap US companies for environmental, social, governance (ESG) parameters, mainly animal cruelty and exploitation, but also fossil fuels, environmental damage, and human rights.

By tracking the index, VEGN aims to invest in companies that are animal friendly and do no harm to or exploit animals, screening out companies that carry out or are involved in animal testing, animal-derived products, as well as animals used in sports or entertainment. VEGN will also not invest in companies that are involved in fossil fuels and their use in energy production or in those involved in military and defence, as well as human rights abuses.

VEGN aims to have ‘a humane approach. VEGN seeks to provide market-capitalization-weighted exposure to US companies that satisfy its rigorous ESG standards, limiting its largest holdings to 5% of the total portfolio.’, according to its website. ‘VEGAN is independently calculated and published real-time at VEGAN on Bloomberg and Reuters terminals as well as reported daily on the Solactive website.’

The US Vegan Climate ETF is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker VEGN, with a total expense ratio of 0.60%.

Beyond Investing was set up in 2017 to invest in companies that have a humane approach. Its core team includes CEO, vegan entrepreneur and impact investor Claire Smith, who was on the investors panel at April’s Food Tech Matters, Chief Investment Officer Larry Abele and Head of Ethical Screening Lee Coates, OBE.
