Multinational consumer goods company Unilever has announced the acquisition of food and fitness supplement brand Onnit.

Founded by Aubrey Marcus in 2010, Onnit refers to itself as the ‘Total Human Optimisation (THO)’ company and specialises in fitness products, including food supplements, protein powders, coffee, fats, oils, snacks and apparel.

According to Reuters, details of the deal have yet to be disclosed, but Onnit will continue to trade from Austin, Texas,  keep Jason Havey as CEO, whilst founder Marcus will continue to serve as brand ambassador.

Unilever, the fourth largest fast moving consumer goods companies in the world, is home to more than 400 brands. Its decision to acquire a food supplement company seems to mark a trend with consumer goods giants. On Monday (26.04.2021) Nestle disclosed it’s in talks to buy The Bountiful Company, a manufacturer of food and health supplements.
